This village in the Erzgebirge mountains of Saxony, Rittersgrün is known today as a winter sports and hiking destination, with a well-developed trail network and the Saxon Narrow Gauge Railway Museum as its main draws. The settlement grew up around hammer mills that worked the Pöhlwasser from the 15th to the 19th century, supplied by ore from surrounding mines, before cardboard and sawmills took over in the mid-1800s.
