Rybnik

This city in southern Poland's Silesian Voivodeship with a walkable centre full of cafés and restaurants, sitting alongside the Ruda and Nacyna rivers. Rybnik has a long musical tradition — it is home to the Rybnik Philharmonic Orchestra and the Szafrankowie School of Music, which produced composers including Henryk Górecki. The city received its Magdeburg rights in 1308 and takes its name from an old Slavic word for a fish pond. The wider region holds several UNESCO World Heritage sites, and the Czech border lies a short drive south.
