Safita
Syria
Dominated by Chastel Blanc, a Crusader-built fortress that once allowed the town to control the surrounding region, Safita spreads across three hilltops in Syria's coastal mountain range. The town has a mixed Greek Orthodox Christian and Alawite population and sits within reach of Krak des Chevaliers, a UNESCO-listed Crusader castle in the wider region. Green hills and fruit-bearing trees surround the town, with several mountain peaks visible from it.
