Saint-Omer
Pas-de-Calais · France
Saint-Omer is a sub-prefecture town in Pas-de-Calais where the canalised river Aa begins its course toward the North Sea, giving the centre a waterside character. The town holds thirty-one listed or classified historic monuments, bears two Croix de Guerre for damage sustained in both World Wars, and sits within the Caps et Marais d'Opale regional natural park, which encompasses France's largest market-garden wetland. Its position between Lille, Calais, and the Belgian border makes it a practical base for the wider region.
