Saltaire
TLE41 · United Kingdom
Built between 1851 and 1871 by wool industrialist Sir Titus Salt alongside the River Aire and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, Saltaire is a Victorian model village in West Yorkshire that has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001. Salt's mill — now converted into an art gallery, restaurants, and offices — anchors a remarkably intact stone-built village that includes workers' housing, a school, a hospital, almshouses, allotments, and a park. The name combines Salt's surname with that of the river.
