San Jose
Northern Mariana Islands
Tinian's largest settlement sits on the island's south coast in the Northern Mariana Islands, within easy reach of three beaches — Kammer, Taga, and Tachogña — and the working harbor built by US Navy Seabees during World War II. The town's main streets, Broadway and 8th Avenue, were named after their Manhattan counterparts by American forces, who largely rebuilt San Jose after the Battle of Tinian. Nearby lie the remains of a much larger ancient Chamorro village that may once have housed tens of thousands of people.
