Sandanski
Bulgaria
Sandanski is a spa town in southwestern Bulgaria known for its thermal water springs and the highest average annual temperature in the country, making it a year-round base for relaxation. The walkable centre has a good spread of cafés and restaurants, vineyards surround the town, and the Sandanska Bistritsa River runs through it. The Pirin Mountains rise nearby. The town also claims a connection to Spartacus, the Thracian-born leader of antiquity's largest slave revolt, and a monument to him stands as one of its landmarks.
