Skibbereen
Ireland
A modest West Cork town on the River Ilen, Skibbereen has a good spread of cafés and restaurants for its size. Its Irish name — An Sciobairín, meaning "the little boat harbour" — reflects its waterside character, and the coast is a short drive away at Baltimore. The town carries a heavy historical weight as one of the worst-affected places during the 1845–52 Famine, with a mass grave holding the remains of thousands of victims.
