This long-established tourist centre in Ukraine's Carpathian Mountains, Verkhovyna sits on the Cheremosh River in the Hutsul region of western Ukraine, with scenic highland terrain on all sides. Founded in 1424 and known as Zhabie until 1962, the compact town holds a Hutsul museum, a Museum of Musical Instruments and Hutsul Lifestyle, and an Orthodox church, making it a base for exploring one of the country's most distinctive folk cultures.
