Zschopau
Erzgebirgskreis · Germany
Motorcycle production has defined Zschopau since 1922, when the Zschopauer Motorenwerke began building bikes under the DKW brand — the world's first motorcycle assembly line ran here from 1926, and by 1928 the factory was the largest motorcycle producer in the world. This tiny Saxon town in the Ore Mountains sits on the Zschopau River, with a history stretching back to a 12th-century castle built to guard the Salt Road, and mining and market rights granted in the 15th century.
