Compact mountain village in Epirus, near Parga, with a café scene modest but real for its size and scenic surrounds. Its history carries some weight: the original settlement was abandoned after repeated pirate raids — linked by local tradition to the pirate Margaritus of Brindisi — and rebuilt inland, before being plundered again by Ali Pasha of Ioannina in 1814. The village also has a documented Albanian Orthodox heritage, with Albanian still spoken by some residents into the 1970s.
