Ballyferriter

Ireland

A modest Irish-speaking village on the Dingle Peninsula in County Kerry, Ballyferriter sits beside Smerwick Harbour at the base of Croaghmarhin Hill. It is part of the Kerry Gaeltacht, where Irish remains the daily language for most residents, and draws students to summer language courses each year. Nearby stands Dún an Óir, an Iron Age promontory fort and the site of the 1580 Siege of Smerwick massacre. The village has a local museum, Músaem Chorca Dhuibhne, along with pubs and a hotel.
