This photo was taken with an Nikon-D50:, Objective Tamron 18 - 250 mm by Wikipedia user: Ra Boe CC BY-SA 3.0 de source Cassino, a town in southern Lazio at the foot of Monte Cairo, is defined by two things: the Abbey of Montecassino, founded by St. Benedict on a rocky hill above the town, and the devastating 1944 Battle of Monte Cassino, which left the town nearly completely destroyed and the abbey in ruins. Both were rebuilt after the war. The town sits near the confluence of the Gari and Liri rivers, with vineyards and mountain terrain in the surrounds, and is home to the University of Cassino and Southern Lazio.
