Hämeenlinna

Founded in 1639, Hämeenlinna holds the distinction of being Finland's oldest inland city, set on the shores of Lake Vanajavesi in the country's southern interior. The medieval Häme Castle anchors the town, and it is also known as the birthplace of composer Jean Sibelius. A walkable centre with a food-and-drink scene sits within reach of the lake's scenic surrounds, and the town serves as the regional capital of Kanta-Häme.
