Hlinsko, a small town in the Pardubice Region, sits in the valley of the upper Chrudimka river within the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands, with a café-equipped centre and a UNESCO-listed folk tradition: the village carnival processions and masks of the Hlinsko region were inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2010. The Betlém quarter, a protected reservation of folk architecture established in 1995, houses the open-air Museum of the Vysočina region. First recorded in 1349, the town received its formal status in 1834.
