Lanckorona
Poland
A hilltop village in Lesser Poland, southwest of Kraków, Lanckorona is known for its well-preserved 19th-century wooden houses and the ruins of Lanckorona Castle, founded by Casimir III the Great in 1336 to guard the road to Kraków. The castle was also the site of a battle during the Bar Confederation uprising in 1771. Once a royal town with full municipal rights for nearly six centuries, the village lost its town status in 1933 as its population fell.
