Mixco
Guatemala
Guatemala's second-largest city, Mixco borders the capital to the west, separated from it by a series of canyons crossed by multiple bridges. Its origins are colonial — Dominican friars established a mission here before the parish transferred to secular clergy in 1754 — and several historic churches remain in the centre. The urban district of Ciudad San Cristóbal sits within its boundaries, and the wider metropolitan region is ringed by UNESCO World Heritage sites.
