Guatemala
Highland city in Guatemala's Central Highlands, Chimaltenango sits at elevation in mountain terrain on the Pan-American Highway, within reach of Guatemala City. Its Nahuatl name translates as "wall of shields," and the city has a colonial history shaped by Dominican friars until 1754. Local production of textiles and pottery continues today, and the wider region is ringed by UNESCO World Heritage sites. The patron saint festival in honor of Santa Ana is celebrated each July.
