Neskaupstaður
Iceland
This compact Icelandic town on the fjord Norðfjörður, with mountains rising directly behind and the Norwegian Sea at its edge, Neskaupstaður stretches along the waterfront for several kilometres, making it one of the more elongated settlements in the East Fjords. The town earned the nickname "Little Moscow" in the 20th century for its strong socialist tradition, and today hosts the East Iceland regional hospital alongside a nine-hole golf course on the banks of the Norðfjörður river.
