Qanawat

Syria

One of Syria's most significant Roman archaeological sites, Qanawat — known in antiquity as Canatha — was once a city of the Decapolis, the league of ten Greco-Roman cities in the eastern Mediterranean. Set in the forested highlands of the Jabal al-Druze region northeast of Suwayda, the tiny town sits at elevation among wooded hills near a river, with Roman-era ruins spread through the surrounding landscape. Its population is predominantly Druze.
