Rijswijk
Netherlands
This modest Gelderland village on the Nederrijn, part of the municipality of Buren, carries a heritage density unusual for its size: a 16th-century church with a tower base dating to the 14th century, a working grist mill (De Hoop, built in 1703 and twice restored) and a cluster of listed buildings within easy walking distance. First recorded between 918 and 948, Rijswijk also has a handful of cafés and restaurants for a settlement this compact.
