Simon's Town
South Africa
This pocket-sized naval town on the eastern shore of the Cape Peninsula, Simon's Town has served as a military harbour for more than two centuries — first for the British Royal Navy, now for the South African Navy. Its main street, St. George's Street, is lined with historic buildings including the 1740 Admiralty House and is known locally as the "Golden Mile." Boulders Beach, a short distance away, hosts an African penguin colony established in 1985. The town has a direct rail link to central Cape Town.
