Sperlonga

This photogenic coastal town on the Tyrrhenian Sea, roughly midway between Rome and Naples, Sperlonga is best known for the ancient Roman sea grotto found within the grounds of the Villa of Tiberius, whose remarkable sculptures are displayed in a museum on the site. The whitewashed old town has a café and restaurant scene that punches above its size, and the surrounding beaches rank among the best in the area, though hotels fill up well in advance during summer.
