Compact village in South Bohemia at the foot of the Šumava highlands, Stachy sits alongside the Jáchymovský stream and is home to one of the region's two largest winter sports centres, the Zadov ski area on the slopes of Churáňovský vrch, with lifts, runs, and a cross-country stadium. The historic core of the village holds protected monument status, and a separate local settlement, Chalupy, was designated a village monument zone in 1995.
