Swellendam
South Africa
South Africa's third-oldest town, after Cape Town and Stellenbosch, Swellendam sits in the Western Cape with a compact centre of cafés and restaurants and more than fifty provincial heritage sites, most of them Cape Dutch buildings. The Langeberg mountains rise close by. Founded well before the modern era, it draws independent travellers making the N2 route between Cape Town and George.
