Tai O
Hong Kong
This fishing town on the western edge of Lantau Island, Tai O is one of Hong Kong's most recognized traditional fishing villages, built largely along riverbanks and connected by footbridges across its waterways. The name means "large inlet," reflecting where Tai O Creek and Tai O River meet before reaching the South China Sea. The town has a café and restaurant scene that exceeds what its compact size might suggest, and sits within reach of both mountains and the wider region's UNESCO World Heritage sites.
