Tulbagh

A compact wine-country town in the Western Cape, Tulbagh sits in a mountain basin drained by the Klein Berg River, with vineyards on its doorstep and a central core of cafés and restaurants. Named in 1804 after Cape Governor Ryk Tulbagh, it serves as the hub of a wine-growing region roughly a two-hour drive north-east of Cape Town, with hiking trails and the Nuwekloof and Michell's passes framing the surrounding landscape.
