Valkininkai

Lithuania

This small Lithuanian hamlet sits at the confluence of three rivers — the Merkys, Šalčia, and Geluža — southwest of Vilnius in Varėna District. The Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, built in 1837, stands at its centre, and the settlement is recognised as an urban heritage monument. A train station settlement grew up roughly eight kilometres to the west along the historic Saint Petersburg–Warsaw railway line.
