Milk chocolate was invented here in 1875, and Vevey has remained a town defined by food and drink ever since — it is home to the global headquarters of Nestlé, founded in the town in 1867, and sits at the centre of a walkable Swiss Riviera café and restaurant scene on the north shore of Lake Geneva. Charlie Chaplin lived here from 1952 until his death in 1977, and the surrounding canton of Vaud is deep wine country with mountain views close at hand.
