Dundalk

Ireland

Dundalk, the county town of County Louth on Ireland's east coast, sits on Dundalk Bay with a walkable centre full of cafés and restaurants. Midway between Dublin and Belfast and just south of the Northern Ireland border, it has long been called the "Gap of the North." The town is steeped in the legends of Cú Chulainn, and its coat of arms carries the motto "I gave birth to brave Cú Chulainn." The Cooley Peninsula to the north offers scenic terrain, and ancient sites including Dromiskin monastery lie within easy reach. Ireland's only all-weather horse racing track, Dundalk Stadium, also draws visitors year-round.
