Piltene
Latvia
Piltene, a small town in Latvia's Courland region, was once the principal city of the Bishopric of Courland and served as the final residence of Magnus, its last bishop and the only King of Livonia, in the 16th century. The ruins of Piltene Castle remain from that era. The town sits where the Zvirbulupe meets an old channel of the Venta river, and lies a short distance from the regional centre of Ventspils.
