This small Danish town on the island of Ærø whose well-preserved historic streets earned it a Europa Nostra prize in 2002, awarded for the care of its cultural heritage. Houses dating to 1645 line lanes that show the craft of generations of bricklayers, carpenters, and blacksmiths, and the town holds a good spread of cafés and restaurants for its size. Ærøskøbing's church was built between 1756 and 1758, replacing an earlier medieval structure.
